Baby Hats!

With the recent new addition to our little family, I've taken up crocheting baby hats.  Not only are they really quick projects, but they're so cute!

Here are the two that I have patterns for, along with pictures of my little man wearing them!  (I have some other patterns, but I need to write them down!  I'll post them soon!)

Pattern 1:  Spiral Crochet Baby Hat
Yarn:  Any baby yarn
Crochet Hook:  4mm [US G-6]
Gauge:  16 sts = 4", 8 rows = 4", use any size hook to obtain gauge

Rnd 1:  Ch 2; 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook; join with a sl st in first sc

Rnd 2:  Ch 3, 3 dc in first sc, [4dc in next dc] 6 times; join with a sl st in top of ch 3 - 28 sts

Rnd 3:  Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around; join - 56 sts

Rnd 4:  Ch 3, dc in the st to the right of the joining - be. crossed dc made; * skip next free st to the left, dc in next st, dc in skipped st working over and enclosing last dc made - crossed dc made; rep from * around; join in  top of ch 3

Rnd 5 - 19:  Rep Rnd 4 (you can repeat Rnd 4 as many times as you want to achieve the height that you want)

Rnd 20:  Ch 3, dc in each st around; join

Rnd 21 and 22:  Ch 2, dc around the post of the next st from the front, * [dc around the post of the next st from the back] twice **, [dc around the post of the next st from the front] twice, rep from * around, end at **; join with a sl st to top of ch 2.  Fasten off at end of last round.  Weave in ends.

Pattern  2:  Stretchy Crochet Baby Hat
Yarn:  Any baby yarn
Crochet Hook:  4mm [US G-6]

Ch 40

Row 1:  Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across

Row 2:  Ch 1, turn.  Sc in first st, skip next st, * [dc, ch 1, dc] all in next st, skip next st, sc, skip next st, repeat from * to end of row ending with [dc, ch 1, dc] in last st.  This row should measure approx. 7.5" - 8.5" for full-term newborn size. Adjust hook size or beginning chains if necessary.

Row 3:  Ch 1, turn. * sc in first ch 1 st, [dc, ch 1, dc] in next sc st, repeat from * across.  Use back loops only except for the 3 stitch groups on each end.

Repeat Row 3 for 34 rows or until piece measures approx. 10 - 10.5".  Fasten off.

Join last row with beginning chain by stitching with yarn.  Gather one end for top of hat.  Weave in all ends.  Add a small pom-pom to the top is desired.
